Protection by Hollis Chatelain

Protection by Hollis Chatelain won the $5,000 Superior Threads Master Award for Thread Artistry at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in October 2009.
Congratulations Hollis!

Protection is a whole cloth quilt and Hollis created the entire image with thread.
In the artist statement, Hollis said,
Wetlands have always intrigued me. When I went to the wetland areas near Charleston, SC in 2003, wonderful childhood memories rushed back into my mind. Playing in the swamps near my grandmother’s farm in New Jersey, jumping from grass hump to grass hump so our boots wouldn’t get sucked off our feet, hearing the frog songs and catching the salamanders and snakes.
We are pleased to work with Hollis in the development of Nature Colors and Living Colors. Both are 40 wt. high- sheen trilobal polyester.
