Ricci's Sewing Room

Posted: 16 April 2010 at 1 a.m.
As a quilter, I love to look at sewing rooms. Seeing how others organize their work places is true inspiration.

Recently I have spent some time working with Ricci, a member of our office staff.

Ricci's design wall was the model for our School of Threadology walls (see 11/13/09 post)

Behind each cupboard door are fabrics folded and stored according to color.

Some of the bins contain a collection from a favorite fabric designer.

And what is this I spy upon the wall?

A dumb waiter that goes directly from the garage below to the sewing room on the second floor.

(This means Ricci can transport her fabric from the trunk of her car straight to her sewing room without her husband seeing the purchases. Let's hope he doesn't read this blog.)

Even better are the "Superior Threads drawers."

Each marked for a specific thread.

Makes Mother Superior proud.

Hi Lisa, We asked Ricci where she got her sewing cabinet that she stores her Superior Threads. She said that her parents used to own a hardware store, and this cabinet was one of their fixtures that she inherited. Sorry to report it's not something available on the market today.

I absolutely love this room. It is fabulous. Where did she get the tall thread cabinet? It would be perfect for storing thread. Please tell Ricci to enjoy her space.

Hi Quilted Sky, Ricci really does have some great organizational ideas, doesn't she? She continues to inspire us also.

Thanks for the suggestion Kelly. We will talk about your idea of showcasing sewing rooms as a regular feature. Great idea! We appreciate your visit.

I loved this post because I, too, am so inspired by sewing rooms. I think this should be a regular feature!!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who sorts my fabric by color. I have the exact same wire mesh baskets and sort by the color wheel and certain selections ie: Michael Miller, Hoffman etc. Putting them into cabinets is great! I hadn't thought of that. Great ideas . . .
