Why Prewound Bobbins?

Cindy in New Mexico asks:
Why do people buy prewound bobbins? Do they perform more consistently or is it just the convenience? I am having problems getting consistent results in the bobbin tension when I free motion quilt. Everything will be going fine and suddenly I have big loops on the back. I have made sure the machine is clean and the needle is new and have rethreaded the machine. I am wondering if the bobbin is the issue. I think the bobbin is only one-third or one-fourth full when this occurs. Thus my question about pre-wound bobbins.
Mother Superior answers:
The main convenience or prewounds is not having to wind your own bobbins. The real benefit is that you get 50 to 80% more thread on a precision-wound bobbin compared to a self-wound bobbin. If the loops consistently appear when the bobbin is low, it may be the way the bobbin was wound. It might also be that the bobbin tension is a little too tight and is pulling too much on the top thread.
