Visiting Snow Canyon State Park

Right on the outskirts of our community of St. George, Utah, lies Snow Canyon State Park.
We feel so fortunate to have this breathtaking landscape so close to where we live and work.
Towering sandstone cliffs of red and white surround 16 miles of beautiful trails.
This is a wonderful place to visit for hiking, biking, picnicking and camping.
The park is open year round.
It may look like the park was named after some of the white rock formations, but this is not the case. Early Utah leaders Lorenzo and Erastus Snow discovered the canyon in the 1850s while looking for lost cattle, and the park was named in their honor.
When we have visitors from out of town, I love to take them to Snow Canyon State Park and show them the scenic wonders of southern Utah.
Also inside the park are cinder cones, lava tubes, lava flows and sand dunes.
This area was once inhabited by the Anasazi and Piute Indians.
In modern day the park has been often used for Hollywood films such as Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, The Electric Horseman and Jerimiah Johnson.
