Using A Delicate Thread

Posted: 27 August 2010 at 5:34 a.m.
ASK DR. BOB
Mary: I have a friend of mine testing out the MasterPiece thread. She loves it for piecing but has had significant bobbin thread breakage. She is using MasterPiece in the top and in the bobbin. She keeps her tension the same. Any advice?
Bob: If the bobbin thread is breaking, 99% of the time, the bobbin tension has worked itself too tight. What machine is she using??
Mary: A Bernina Aurora 430E.

Bob: I recommend loosening the top tension to 2.0 and the bobbin tension screw by 1/4 turn.
That will solve it.

Hi Debra: Thank you so much for your comment on using prewound bobbins. They really are time savers.

Hi Quiltjane: I asked Bob Purcell your question, and he thought that your model of machine might not be able to use the prewounds.

I love the prewound bobbins. They fit great in both my Phaff and Brother machines. I have never had a problem in either machine. Best of all, the prewound bobbins last so much longer than any I can wind. The only time I wind bobbins now is when I want to do bobbin work from the back of my work.

Hi, I have never used pre wound bobbins in my machine. I have always been worried that they may not fit well and cause tension problems. I have a Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.0. What do you think?
