Superior Spotlight: Dorothy W.

Quilting can take on many forms and this past week we were able to see a fabulous display of creativity, quilting, and culture.

Presenting Dorothy W.’s latest design:  Sunrise Over the Mountains.

This Fancy Dance shawl was custom created for Dorothy’s daughter-in-law who participates in the Native American tradition of Fancy Dance.  The shawl inspiration came from her daughter-in-law, who gave Dorothy creative licensing to visually produce a sunrise over the mountains and lake.

The beautiful ribbons, which according to Dorothy, took the most time (and patience!), represent feathers. Her secret:  use a wood burner to seal the ends of the ribbons.

Dorothy used a combination of MonoPoly and Charlotte’s Fusible Web to applique the sun.  She prefers using the fusible thread because it stays soft and pliable, perfect for the shawls use in dancing.

Can you believe she’s only been quilting for a year?
