monopoly threadMonoPoly keeps breaking on my Innova. What can I do?

Q. I am new to using your monofilmant thread, MonoPoly on my Innova longarm. I am able to use your other threads without a problem but am having a lot of breakage with MonoPoly. I'm quilting for a customer and need to finish the quilt soon. I checked your reference guide and have loosened my top tension and am using a size #14 needle. What am I missing?

A. MonoPoly is a delicate thread, but we use it in our longarm machines at our office all the time. Tension is usually the culprit when it comes to thread that is breaking. Please loosen your top tension more than you think you should. If you can eliminate a contact (threading) point, that will help reduce the tension as well.

If you are still experiencing breakage, increase your needle size. Sometimes, the flexibility of a needle can actually cause a thread to break. Especially if you're quilting on Batiks or quilts with a large surface area. Try a size #18 needle, as this will be stiffer than a #14.
