WISE WORDS FROM MOTHER SUPERIOR
Q. When changing a spool of thread on my sewing machine, is it best to clip the thread close to the spool and then pull the thread out downward through the needle rather than pulling it upward?
A. That is probably the better way, but not absolutely necessary if you are using a very good quality thread. A loosely twisted, low quality thread pulled backwards through the machine may cause problems but a smooth, tightly twisted quality thread will not cause damage.

EDUCATION: Thread Selection Guide
What thread should I use? Instead of words, this new chart says it all. An easy-to-follow illustration will take you from start to finish. Our new THREAD SELECTION GUIDE helps in choosing the right thread for each project. I think you will really like this chart. Individuals, guilds, stores, and teachers have permission to copy it. Copy and paste this link into your browser
http://www.superiorthreads.com/includes/pdf/Superior_Flow_Charts.pdf
or access it from our home page http://www.superiorthreads.com (click on NEW! Check out our Thread Selection Guide.)
When the THREAD SELECTION GUIDE is used in conjunction with our newly revised THREAD REFERENCE GUIDE,
http://www.superiorthreads.com/includes/pdf/quickReferenceHome.pdf
you can get quick answers to what thread to use, recommended needle size and tension settings, and compatible bobbin thread.

REQUEST
We need your feedback. If you ordered and tested a sample MonoPoly bobbin, sample So Fine bobbin, or sample Class 15 (A-style) bobbin, we want to hear from you. If you like them, we'll order them.

$30 GIFT CERTIFICATE WINNERS. Please send your ideas to help us serve you better (products, education, website, customer service, etc.). We will award a $30 gift certificate for the best ideas. In the e-mail subject line, please type "$30 idea." This month's winners:
1. Jane Weiss (Wisconsin). On the Education pages, format into printer friendly versions.
Bob's Note: Formatting has been done for each topic. If you prefer to print out the entire library and have a 90-page reference book, a formatted pdf file is also available. Click on this link and see instructions at the top of the page: http://www.superiorthreads.com/education

2. Cindy Drake (Iowa). Would it be possible to improve the online color charts for So Fine thread? Perhaps the two different groups of colors (original and new) could each have their own separate link.
Bob's Note: Done. Thank you for helping us improve our website.

3. Nancy Sharr (Iowa). I still struggle trying to determine which size needle I need for my various types of thread (i.e. So Fine, Rainbows, Metallics, etc.) Would it be possible on the needles ordering page to add the threads that are recommended for each of the needle sizes?
Bob's Note: Great idea. Added.

4. Janie Delap (Illinois). If someone clicks on an image to enlarge it, can you have the enlarged image appear in a new window? Then if they click on another image, yet another window opens. They can then position the two new windows side by side.
Bob's Note: Done. Now you can compare two spools or cones side by side and select the right color. By clicking on the image, a new browser window opens and you can position multiple windows side by side on your computer monitor.

The six most popular neutral colors are here. #151 CANVAS, #152 BISQUE, #153 PARCHMENT, #155 GRAY, #156 GRANITE, and #161 RAVEN. MasterPiece is the absolute highest grade extra-long staple Egyptian-grown cotton. It is a #50/2-ply thread which makes it ideal for bobbin, piecing, applique, lacework, and heirloom embroidery. Your machine will notice the difference. Note: We sent our thread to a new bobbin winding factory and, by mistake, the cardboard sides they used were preprinted with the word "polyester." We are crossing out that word with a marking pen so our first batch of MasterPiece bobbins do not look real professional. http://www.superiorthreads.com/category/107

BOB'S SUPERIOR JOKE OF THE MONTH
Walking up to the store's fabric counter, an attractive young woman said, "I want to buy this material for a new dress. How much does it cost?"
"Only one kiss per yard," replied the smirking male clerk.
Not to be taken back by the comment, the woman said, "That's fine. I'll take ten yards."
With expectation and anticipation written all over his face, the clerk hurriedly measured out and wrapped the material, then held it out teasingly, leaning forward to receive the special payment.
The woman snapped up the package and pointed to an old man standing beside her. "Grandpa will pay the bill," she smiled.
