SUPERIOR'S UPHOLSTERY THREAD

Superior Threads carries a selection of high-quality upholstery thread, in addition to the many other types of thread we sell.

For upholstery items which will remain indoors or finished goods that won't be exposed to UV rays on a regular basis, we recommend using our bonded nylon upholstery thread. Our bonded nylon upholstery thread is made of nylon 66, which is stronger than regular nylon upholstery thread. Nylon 6,6 is mildew resistant, stronger, and has a much higher melting point than regular nylon thread. This is advantageous as it reduces the friction which is placed on the top thread when stitching on a high-speed industrial sewing machine. We currently stock six sizes of Bonded Nylon thread in over two hundred colors.

If your sewn project will be outdoors or exposed to UV rays on a regular basis, we recommend sewing with Bonded Polyester thread. Polyester fibers have greater resistance to the damage caused by UV rays and exposure compared to nylon fibers. The strength is comparable; however, bonded nylon threads are generally stronger than bonded polyester threads.

For a truly unique upholstery experience, add SewGlow, our glow-in-the-dark upholstery thread. SewGlow is a bonded polyester thread that has glowing pigment impregnated into the fibers. The glowing effect lasts several minutes (with a bright glow and slowly fades) and can be recharged over and over again.

Bonded Nylon Threads

All of our upholstery threads are bonded, which means it is coated with a special resin to protect the thread from abrasion while sewing upholstery and heavy materials, including canvas and duck cloth. The bonding process also in increases the tensile strength of the thread. Our upholstery thread is available in a variety of colors depending on the thread size (thickness) of Bonded Nylon and Bonded Polyester. The most popular size for upholstery thread is #69, followed by #92. There are applications where a very thick thread, such as #346 is wanted due to its high tensile strength and sturdy lock stitch. All cones are available on 1 lb. put-ups besides #46 Bonded Nylon, which is available on a 7 oz. cone.

Price breaks are available at specific quantity thresholds.
